Losing My Mom in My Early 20s
At the early age of 22-years-old, Ashleigh lost her pride and joy, her mother to a 2 month battle of stomach cancer.
My mother passed from stomach cancer. We found out in September and it was already stage 4. She passed in November. She had been to a hospital twice before the Doctors actually found it.
Ashleigh goes on to explain the pain she experienced from losing her mom.
I can't explain it. There is no way to describe that pain. It's just something that you don't understand until it happens. I'm not even sure if I really have grieved. I am currently in therapy and it happened 4.5 years ago.
I can imagine during the holidays, especially on Mother's Day you go back to feeling that indescribable pain
The first holidays were the worse. As time goes on the holidays aren't so bad. Mother's Day is just another Sunday in May to me.
What is your best memory with your mom?
My best memory with my mom would have to be her last Mother's Day. She went to church for the first time in over 10 years and we were just so happy. We were in a great place.
How has this tragedy affected you?
It has affected me tremendously because I wasn't ready for that. Like I said we knew 2 months before and when I took her to emergency room for breathing treatments, I didn't know 2 days later I'd be leaving without my mom. The main person who has your back. The person you call for everything. I may not have been still living at home but I still very much needed and need my mom to this day !
What advice would you give to someone who has lost their mom?
Just keep your head up. They say time heals all but I don't believe that because the longer it is that's longer time that you haven't seen this face or heard this voice or smelled this person. Cry when you need to. You're entitle to feel however you feel and no one can change that !
